BASE is ICAEW’s free national business and accounting competition for 16-17 year olds across the UK. An exciting experience where students take part in team challenges; giving them an understanding of what it’s like to be an ICAEW Chartered Accountant whilst developing their key employability skills.

ICAEW

Many congratulations to Year 12s  Amelia, Cara, Isobel and Katherine who have gone through to the National Finals of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ (ICAEW) BASE Competition.

The BASE competition is entered by thousands of school teams each year. Students work in teams to discuss a business scenario and then prepare a presentation on their findings. The competition tests teamwork and problem solving amongst other core skills. Katherine, Isobel, Cara and Amelia are all studying Business and have found that the competition has really complemented their studies. In particular, they have gained an understanding of how roles are allocated in a business, learned the importance of justifying and backing-up decisions and increased their awareness of the smaller, every day things which businesses have to consider.

Due to this year’s restrictions the BASE competition has operated online this year with our team meeting weekly on MS Teams prior to the return to school. The National Final will also take place online, with the competing teams being set their final business mission on 16 June. We wish the team every success, in this, Walthamstow Hall’s first time of entering the competition.
