At the Junior School it’s “Book Week” so we can spread out our fun activities over a few days.

On Tuesday we welcomed the very entertaining author and illustrator Ed Vere to read a few of his books to Early Years and Key Stage 1. He had girls flapping their wings, jumping up and down and generally getting fully involved as he read Max and Bird and his latest book, The Artist.

The older girls enjoyed hearing from author Helen Dennis who wrote the Secret Breakers series and the River of Ink series. Helen shared her early passion for writing with Years 3-6, explaining that bossiness was a great quality for an author to have, as you are in charge of all the characters and what happens to them.

Helen then led smaller groups in workshops, deciphering some of the codes in her Secret Breakers books.

Wednesday saw a colourful World Book Day parade in the Hall. See the picture gallery for details. Congratulations to the fabulous, huge papier-mâché BFG for winning the KS2 competition and to Percy Jackson’s three-headed dog Cerberus, who was runner up.  In Key Stage 1 Charlie and Lola‘s Lola and the very orange Marmaduke the Very Popular Dragon took top spots.

Children have been given their World Book Day vouchers plus bookmarks from the competition run a little while ago – congratulations to Coco and to Maggie for the winning designs in KS2 and KS1 respectively.
