Many congratulations to Kitty in Year 6, whose artwork ‘The Class of 2022’ is one of the pieces chosen from over 21,000 entries by the Royal Academy for their 2023 Young Artists Summer Show. The Royal Academy judges were, “overwhelmed by the passion, insight and skill in the artworks they saw, and all expressed how difficult it was selecting the 478 artworks now exhibited online.”

You can view the online exhibition on the Royal Academy website and also vote for your favourite pieces in the annual ‘People’s Choice Award‘, also on the website. To vote for Kitty simply add ‘The Class of 2022’ in your entry form https://youngartists.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibitions/2023/88767?query=Kitty

Speaking about her portraits Kitty said,

“I decided to paint the three Prime Ministers from 2022 as I think it was unusual to have so many in the same year. I first designed it on my iPad and then wanted to paint it in acrylics, as I’m learning to use them.

My favourite part of the painting is Liz Truss’s hair, as I like the detail and the highlights. The hardest part was mixing colours together to create the ones I wanted. I really loved painting this picture, so I think it would be much more fun to be an artist than run the country!”

Congratulations Kitty and very best of luck in the People’s Choice Award, we’re excited to watch where your art takes you when you move up to the Senior School in September.
