Reception listened to the folk tale Little Red Hen about the lazy farm animals who won’t help cut, thresh or mill the wheat or make it into bread and therefore don’t get to share it with the little red hen who did all the work.

They then made bread themselves. Pupils pulled the grain off the stalk of wheat, ground some in a pestle and mortar and made the dough for bread rolls (using shop-bought flour!) which they took home to cook and eat.
