Our swimmers brought home a ton of medals in individual and team events from the inaugural World School Swim Championships at the weekend, including the trophy for the U15 World School Girls Category.

This fantastic festival of swimming events was held at the London Aquatic Centre, where the 2012 Olympics were held, with more than 20 Schools from around the UK and the globe taking part. Those representing Walthamstow Hall across three age categories were:

Junior School Emilie, Maia, Alexia, Alexa, Eva, Sophie and Eva
Senior School Sophie, Maisie, Isabel, Ruth, Fern, Imogen, Emily, Gabriela and Iris

It was a great team effort, but special mentions are due to Fern in Y10 for her five gold and two silver medals and to Imogen in Y7 who won gold in all four of the breaststroke events she entered. Head Swimming Coach Mr Smith: This was a thoroughly enjoyable competition that proved to be very successful within a great sporting environment. A big thank you to all members of the Swim Department for their dedication in the build-up to this competition. The support from parents over the weekend and the support from Mrs Carr with the Junior School swimmers on day one and as a poolside official on day two. Final thanks go to Mr Gray (father of Fern), who also dedicated his time officiating poolside. Congratulations to all who participated in this fantastic competition, Walthamstow Hall are very proud of what has been achieved.

* LC = Long course swimming when the pool is 50 metres in length. SC = Short course swimming when the pool is 25 metres in length. A boom is moved to make the change in pool size. Day 1 was SC and day 2 LC.

** Skins = The top 8 swimmers from the 4 x 25m Individual Medley are selected to swim in the skins event at the end of the day. This is a knockout competition with the races 50m in length, with the stroke type randomly picked from a hat.
