Potassium, calcium, copper, lithium and sodium ions were burning brightly in the Senior School chemistry labs this lunchtime, when Year 5 came for a lesson on Fireworks.

Sixth Form scientists were on hand to help the younger girls light the different chemicals.

Having learnt which chemicals produce which colours, girls then saw lab technician Mr Hayward set off some explosions – ably assisted by volunteer Darcy – to demonstrate the principle of oxidisation.
