This year our Carnegie Club book critics mirrored the official judges in their choice of winner for the prestigious Carnegie Medal.
They chose Poet X, by Elizabeth Acevedo, which is a novel written in verse – a series of short poems – creating the diary of a 15 year old girl in Harlem.
The students in Years 8, 9 and 10 observed a news blackout to remain unswayed by the official result, which came out two days before their final meeting.
As ever, the Carnegie Group have had a fascinating journey towards this end point, enjoying discussions about human rights and other issues pertinent to the shortlisted books they have read over the past few months. Many thanks to Librarians Mrs White and Mrs Bretz.
