On Saturday our Year 10 Badminton squad,  Annabel, Hannah, Holly and Rosie, travelled to the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes, to compete in the U16 English Schools Badminton National Finals.

The team won both games in round one, which meant that they were guaranteed to finish in the top three! In the afternoon they went on to play the other two top schools. Their first match was against Chulmleigh Community College, and resulted in a convincing 4-1 win for Wally. In the final match of the day Wally played the top seeded team from Chelmsford High School for Girls…and Wally performed exceptionally well, winning the first three games to secure gold medals, and went on to win 4-1.

After being undefeated throughout the day Wally were crowned U16 National Badminton Champions!

This is an outstanding achievement for such a young team, and throughout the competition every team member showed such passion, determination, great team spirit and were fantastic ambassadors for the School. A special thanks must go to Jo Muggeridge who has coached the girls to this exceptional level. The team have now been put forward to represent England in the World School Games next year in Greece.
