What our pupils say, featuring Early Years

Play video

Since my daughter started at Walthamstow Hall we have been particularly impressed by the quality of the teaching staff and have found the pastoral care to be excellent. The extra-curricular activities on offer are particularly impressive with Taekwon-Do and Forest School being firm favourites.

Walthamstow Hall Reception Parent

At Walthamstow Hall, Sevenoaks, we offer our youngest pupils the opportunity to flourish and develop through play and creative adult-led activities. Your child will take their first steps on their unique educational journey with exceptional support from our passionate Early Years team.

We believe that in order to create lifelong learners, children’s natural curiosity should be nurtured and celebrated. Our school values of Respect, Integrity, Aspiration, Individuality and Community are woven into the fabric of day-to-day life to help our pupils grow up to be inquisitive, joyful, confident and well-rounded members of our School.

We offer a range of subjects and activities in our indoor and outdoor learning spaces, with a strong emphasis on outdoor learning in our dedicated areas, gardens, ‘Dell’ and onsite Forest School.

Our specialist Early Years teachers and assistants educate in fun and imaginative ways, developing strong relationships with every child so they can create a bespoke learning journey to reflect individual needs and interests.

The guiding principles which underpin Walthamstow Hall’s Early Years ethos are:

  • Every child is unique and constantly learns through stimulating experiences
  • Children learn to feel valued through building positive relationships
  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments
  • Strong partnerships between school and home are vital for all children to flourish
  • All children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates

In Nursery, Pre-School and Reception there are seven areas of learning and development which are woven into the entire curriculum:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Walthamstow Hall welcomes girls and boys into Nursery from age 2. They will then progress into Pre-School in the September before their 4th birthday. Children who join our Nursery or Pre-School are well-prepared to start full-time education. The girls in our Nursery and Pre-School have a guaranteed place in Walthamstow Hall Reception class.

I hope you enjoy learning more about our Early Years provision over the following pages and look forward to welcoming you to Walthamstow Hall.

Mrs Suzanne Hartley
Head of Early Years
