Year 7 dressed up in late medieval garb: tabards, coifs and belts, to learn about life in the C15th, in a workshop from the Happening History team.
After re-enacting the wedding of 12 year old Lady Margaret Beaufort to Edmund Tudor, 12 years her senior, students sat down to a ‘wedding feast’ to learn about some inequalities between rich and poor. Meat, sugar and fine wines if you are noble, but cheese and gritty bread that grind your teeth down if you are not.
They then learnt about guilds and how to make a living from being an apothecary, leatherworker or carpenter. The session rounded off with some Black Death, warfare and alarming medical practices.
