Sixth Form
|
At Walthamstow Hall we fully recognise the need to create a Sixth Form environment that acknowledges the maturity of our students, preparing them for university and adulthood.
There is greater freedom in the Sixth Form with the girls' own Sixth Form Centre for study and relaxation, including their own kitchen, quiet study room, ICT room and common rooms. They no longer wear uniform, but are expected to dress appropriately.
Alongside this freedom, the girls now have a significant role to play in the running of the school, having their responsibilities as Head Girl, Prefects, House Captains and in other leadership roles. They are also encouraged to use their initiative in addressing practical, social and business issues, through activities such as the Financial Literacy Challenge, Public Speaking Competition, The Challenge of Management, Voluntary Service Unit and work experience. Walthamstow Hall is the largest single contributor of volunteers to Sevenoaks V.S.U.
Virtually all our girls go on to higher education, having selected the best combination of subjects from the wide range available in the Sixth Form. There are 25 subjects available for AS / A Level / Cambridge Pre-U. As well as having the freedom either to specialise or to continue Arts & Science subjects, girls also have the option of following the Cambridge Global Perspectives & Independent Research Report courses (GPR), leading to the full Cambridge Pre-U Diploma.
Teaching is in small groups which encourages stimulating and lively discussion and ensures attention to individual needs. The relationship with the staff is more informal and girls have more responsibility for their own research and reading, and the management of their time. Girls enjoy the breadth of subject choice and depth of study of their chosen subjects. At every stage they are given the stimulus, guidance and encouragement they need to become confident, articulate students.
Sport remains an essential part of the girls' lives and they are encouraged to pursue their own choices. Some may prefer team games such as lacrosse in our lst XII, others may opt for individual workouts in the gym.
At Walthamstow Hall we recognise that the two Sixth Form years may be the most important of a girl's life. Grades are not everything, however. We hope that the experience of learning will be intrinsically interesting and valuable, and prepare our students to be life-long learners and happily-balanced adults.
Please ask about the generous Scholarships and Bursaries available for girls staying on for or entering our Sixth Form.
