The Junior School is set in its own attractive grounds in the heart of Sevenoaks. It was originally built as a residential property in 1903, and has many interesting architectural features.

School Uniform

The school uniform is popular and has a recognisable cherry-red blazer. The uniform is available from Horncastles, the school outfitters in Sevenoaks. There is also a school shop run by parents at the school, where many good quality second-hand items may be purchased.

The extension and refurbishment of the nursery classrooms means lots more space for our youngest members of the school community. 'Little Shipmates' at Walthamstow Hall is a welcoming environment with plenty to learn and lots of toys to play with. The 'Bakery Shop' is a favourite play area and girls also enjoy using the computer.

The ICT Suite is an excellent resource for both developing computer skills in weekly ICT lessons and for other subjects too.

Junior Girls Using ICT Skills

Recently, girls in Year 5 researched 'Echolocation' as part of their Science work on sound waves. They enjoyed preparing Power Point presentations to display their new found knowledge.

New Science Lab JS

The new science laboratory was opened in 2005 by Professor Berry, an eminent scientist. There are custom-built science benches equipped with gas and electricity supplies for plenty of practical work. Data cabling allows the students to network their research findings, with a variety of ICT programmes available. There is an interactive whiteboard, additional ceiling- hung projection screen and a separate preparation room.

The new library has been well-received by all the girls and 'Book Club' is a popular activity in lunch break. It was opened in 2005 by author, Gwyneth Rees, famous for her 'fairy' stories. Girls in Nursery dressed up as fairies for the opening day and Gwyneth ran creative workshops for the older girls.

Music classes are popular and many girls learn to play a wide choice of musical instruments. Musical teas (informal concerts) give girls a chance to perform individually, in front of parents each term. Specialist music facilities are housed in a dedicated Music Department within the grounds. All girls learn recorder from Year 3 in class lessons. An excellent bank of peripatetic teachers give the girls the opportunity to learn orchestral instruments, piano and singing.

Girls enjoy the outdoor play equipment including an adventure playground, play house and play boat. The playground, with its attractive safety surface, gives space for girls to run around, whatever the weather.

There is plenty of drama offered to girls with major productions performed each term by different year groups. In the Autumn Term Nursery and Reception classes perform a Nativity play. Years 1 & 2 perform a play or musical. In the Spring Term, Years 3, 4 and 5 have a production and in the Summer Term Year 6 have a Leavers' production. All the girls benefit from the added confidence and experience of performing to parents.
