Year 9 joins the debate

26 January 2015

Walthamstow Hall now has three debating groups: the Sixth Form group meet on Wednesday after school; the Year 10 and 11 group meet on Tuesday lunchtime and a new Year 9 group has just started and are meeting on Monday lunchtimes.

The students are thriving in developing their ability to debate within the British Parliamentary format covering a variety of topic ranging from ‘Should sports men and women be role models?’ to ‘This house would ban the use of the veil in schools’ to ‘This house would introduce a 100% inheritance tax’.

They have participated in regional competitions, developing their skills in the cut and thrust of competitive debating. We are also participating in the Churchill Public Speaking competition held at Chartwell this summer, where our Year 10 debating group will learn from experts on how to speak publically, effectively and persuasively.

Any students interested in joining any of the debating groups, they should talk to Ms Knight or Ms Windle.
