"Who do you think you are?"

26 September 2018

We brought the world and its languages to our corner of Kent in Prayers earlier, when we heard stories of staff members' family backgrounds, to mark the European Day of Languages.

We learnt of a great great grandfather in India who translated the Bible into Tamil, the father who spoke Hindi, Swahili and Portugese, and of a French teacher's Polish grandparents.

Staff then recited a line of The Lord's Prayer in Latin, French, Spanish, German and Welsh.

The Head of Modern Foreign Languages had devised a morning of language-based activities for the Year 7s.

These included learning some Japanese, (taught by a Spanish teacher, who explained that both Spanish and Japanese are phonetic languages) and playing charades with foreign words.  An enlightening morning.
