WH Girls play for County and Country

3 November 2011

Over 25 Walthamstow Hall students have played their chosen sport at county and national level in the last term in sports as diverse as athletics, curling, hockey, lacrosse, netball and softball.

The Autumn term started with the amazing news that Year 9 Gemma Mackinnon had represented Great Britain as part of the U13 team on tour in Holland over the summer. Following the tour Gemma won the award for 'Most Valuable Player' in the team based on her player stats.

Close on Gemma's heels Lower Sixth Georgina Middleton was then selected to run for Great Britain at the European Junior Athletics Championships in Spain in the 4 x 100m relay. Georgina and her team mates finished a close second just behind Italy.

Also in September, Year 11 Angharad Ward took part in trials for the Team GB Youth Olympic Curling squad; we wait with baited breath to hear whether Angharad has a place on the team who will be competing at Innsbruck in Austria at the Winter Olympics next year.

After impressive performances at the Kent School Lacrosse Tournament at Benenden in September twenty Walthamstow Hall students were selected to play for Kent. 10 were selected to the U19 squad and 10 to the U15 team. Jessica Groves, Rebecca Pigot, Alexandra Drewe, India Crawley and Katie Alcock were also selected to play for the East Territorial U19 teams. Rebecca also represented England in the U17 team in Germany during the summer and Alexandra also plays in the U14 county hockey team.

Last, but by no means least, Year 8 Georgette Valentine-Hosein and Year 10 India Crawley are now part of the Kent U14 and U17 netball squads.
