Walthamstow Hall in 'Top 100'

1 December 2011

Walthamstow Hall has again featured in the 'Top 100 Independent Secondary Schools' list, from The Sunday Times, appearing alongside 35 other top independent girls' day schools.

Girls’ day schools were by far the most strongly represented type of school in the list and we are delighted to be included in that cohort.

Of the 100 schools:

·         50% are girls’ schools

·         34% are co-ed schools

·         16% are boys’ schools

When day and boarding are factored in, of the 100 schools:

·         36% are girls’ day schools

·         17% are co-ed day schools

·         17% are co-ed boarding schools

·         14% are girls’ boarding schools

·         9% are boys’ boarding schools

·         7% are boys’ day schools

Speaking about Walthamstow Hall's ranking Headmistress, Jill Milner, said;

"It is fantastic to be included in The Sunday Times list. That girls' day schools lead the pack demonstrates the very high quality of education that we provide. Girls' day schools do not have the wide, often global, catchment area for students as boarding schools do, instead they are offering exceptional 'added value' to the girls living in their local areas. At Walthamstow Hall our examination results this year were certainly very pleasing. We see academic success very much as a happy by-product of everything that we offer our students here, be it inspirational teaching in optimum-sized classes, a full and varied extra-curricular programme, fantastic facilities and an all pervading sense of community which we all take great pride in."

Note: In 2010 The Sunday Times did not include Pre-U results. As a third of our students take Pre-U exams instead of A levels this omission gave a 2010 ranking which did not represent the school's true performance in public examinations.
