Wally win at Kent Championships

10 February 2017

After qualifying in December two Walthamstow Hall U14 Badminton teams competed at the Kent School Championships yesterday.

Wally A - Holly, Scarlet, Merys, Kitty & Georgie

Wally B - Laura, Hannah, Annabel, Rosie & Nina

Wally A had a strong start by beating Tonbridge Grammar 5-0, Rainham Mk Grammar A  5-0 & Mayfield Grammar 4-1.

Wally B started their campaign as strongly as the A team by beating Danecourt Grammar 5-0, Highworth Grammar 4-1 & Rainham Grammar B 5-0.

The top two teams went through to the semi-finals where Wally A beat Danecourt Grammar 5-0 and Wally B had a magnificent win over Mayfield Grammar, a very close battle running to the wire with everything on the last game of the match. Mayfield had two very strong county players representing them but the Wally players managed to win all 3 doubles matches to clinch victory 3-2.

The final was a head to head between Wally A & Wally B.  This also was a very close match with Wally A squeezing to a 3-2 win.

Every member of the squad played really well and gave 100% in every match. Many congratulations to them and  to the coaching and teaching team behind them.

As the newly crowned Kent Champions Wally now qualify for the regional play offs against all of the southern county champions on 9th March. This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the great enthusiasm for Badminton in school since it was added to the curriculum and extra-curricular programme when the new Sports Hall opened in September 2015.
