Wally Pop

14 May 2018

Parents, staff and students enjoyed a fabulous evening of music when students from every year stepped up to the microphone to perform a diverse programme of pop music - all for this year's School Charity, The Brain Tumour Charity.

There were solos, duets and ensemble pieces across the evening, plus two original compositions.

Some stand out moments were Year 9 Abigail singing Emeli Sandé's Read All About It and India-Rose's lovely rendition of Eva Cassidy's Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Emily Leather's Chamber Choir gave us a feisty performance of the feminist anthem Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, an apppropriate musical nod to the centenary of women gaining the vote in the UK.

We had three sisters performing the Elvis standard I Can't Help Falling in Love With You, several ukulele performances and a medley of songs from The Greatest Showman.

The evening closed with a moving goodbye from the Senior Choir, singing Softly as I leave You. It was the Year 13s' last musical performance in the School, and a lovely one too.

A great many thanks are due to everyone involved: to singing coach Emily Leather who masterminded this year's show, to James Mitchell who did sound and lights, the student technicians, the two Year 13 comperes and of course all the performers.
