Wally Pop

11 May 2015

Students from Year 7 to the departing Upper Sixth 'sung their hearts out' and definitely 'made songs their own' at a Wally Pop concert brimming with on talent Friday evening.

Upper Sixth comperes Zoe and Scarlett introduced solo artists, groups and 30 strong choirs singing a mixture of favourite pop songs and ballads, often with in a special Wally Hall twist. Every performance delivered a wow factor, as students performed with great style, poise and big voices.

Every song was a highlight in a programme which included; Upper Sixth Alice conducting the chamber choir singing her own arrangement of a 12 song mash-up, Year 8 Zoe singing her own thoughtful composition accompanied only by her guitar, Alice in Year 11 reworking 'Crazy in Love' as an acoustic version for the ukulele, the Year 7 choir beautifully singing a gentle acoustic version of 'Somebody I that I used to know' and Year 10 Ella introducing Wally Hall to the beat box. Interval entertainment was provided by the Wally Hall swing quartet and the concert ended with parents having the chance to hear one of the highlights of House Music 2015, Down house's rendition of 'Ultraviolet'.

That this was the last Walthamstow Hall concert for the Upper Sixth didn't go unnoticed by the audience who were treated to some poignant final performances by these talented performers who have played a major role in school music.

Speaking after the concert, Director of Music, Mr Nick Castell said, "I thought it was an excellent evening of music. There was huge variety in the programme and an increase in the number of ensembles prepared by the girls. The music was of an incredibly high standard and the girls worked extremely hard in preparing their pieces."
