Charlotte wins Election

4 December 2015

We are extremely pleased to announce that Year 11 Charlotte Robertson has been elected to the Kent Youth County Council. She will represent the voice of young people in Sevenoaks and take part in campaigns throughout 2016.

Charlotte was one of 114 registered candidates standing in the Kent Youth County Council (KYCC) elections and was the only female candidate for the Sevenoaks District. The elections took place in November. 30,039 votes were cast across 113 schools and youth organisations acting as polling stations. The results were announced yesterday.

Four young people were elected to represent each of Kent's 12 Districts, with a further 12 taking up community seats. KYCC is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in making a difference in their local community, it is linked to UK Youth Parliament and each year 7 young people are elected from KYCC to represent Kent nationally on the UK Youth Parliament.

Charlotte's campaign pledges included championing the implementing a curriculum for life. This will be one of the KYCC's 2016 campaigns, alongside bullying and improving public transport and cycle facilities.
