Match Report

Yesterday the U15 lacrosse team played in the National Schools U15 Lacrosse Championships and made history for the school!

In their section games they beat Cheltenham Ladies College, Haberdashers Monmouth and Bolton, drew with Benenden and lost to Birkenhead – their only loss of the day. These results gave them 2nd place in the section, enough to take them into the play-off stages of the tournament.

They played Godolpin in this next round in a tense match that ended with a draw at full time – this took them into ‘sudden death’ extra time and they wasted no time in scoring the winning goal to win 3-2.

Advancing to the quarter-final stage, they met St Swithuns and faced another sudden death play off when this match also ended in a draw. Once again, they scored the winning goal, from a penalty, winning 3-2 and marched on to the semi-finals to play LEH.  In another tense and closely contested match, the team kept their nerve to pull away from another tied score to win, 2-1, in the final minute.

For the first time ever, a Wally Hall team took their place in a National Schools Lacrosse Championship final. The match did not disappoint and both teams came out fighting with Wycombe Abbey taking an early lead. The U15s made sure they stayed in contention throughout the match and found themselves level with Wycombe 2-2 with a minute to go. From the draw the team quickly gained possession and scored the winning goal with 5 seconds left on the clock!

In a state of happy disbelief, the U15s accepted their medals and the trophy at the closing presentation. Having been Kent Outdoor Champions for the last 2 years, Kent indoor champions this year, they are now National U15 Lacrosse Champions – a first for any Wally team! Huge congratulations must go to all the players who worked tirelessly for each other throughout the day and also to fantastic Miss Walters who has coached the team to victory this year. Although this was a true team performance, we must make special mention of our MVP (and arguably the MVP of the tournament), India Prescott, for her stunning performance in goal.

Well done to each and every player for a fabulous result!
