Year 8 had a fantastic art trip to Margate on Tuesday, with a guided tour of the exhibition "Journeys with 'The Waste Land'" followed by a workshop on etching with a professional artist.

The exhibition explores the significance of TS Eliot’s poem The Waste Land through the visual arts and was curated by a diverse group of people including many Margate residents.

The students saw some major pieces, including Cy Twombly's Four Seasons and were then led in their etching workshop by artist Joe Drakeford

They took inspiration from the sea seen through the gorgeous gallery windows and then inscribed words - selected from a bin containing all the words from Eliot's poem - onto their art work.

Afterwards, students walked along the harbour (with time for an ice cream) to take photos to inspire them for the drypoint etching they will do in class at school.
