Trip to the Paralympics

7 September 2012

Year 8 girls were fortunate enough to visit the Olympic Stadium on Thursday 6th September to see the Paralympic athletics – track and field. They were overwhelmed by the 'Wow factor' of the sheer size of the stadium and how the Olympic Flame seemed dwarfed by the venue. Our seats were high enough to see all the events – one minute Blind Triple Jump, next a 100 metre wheelchair race , and interspersed by Victory Ceremonies , when medals for prior events were awarded and National Anthems played. We were pleased to witness a Bronze medal for a British Discus thrower and to see Hannah Cockcroft win her heat to enter the magnificent final on Thursday evening. The girls were in awe of the athletes and their incredible performances and clapped and cheered them on with great enthusiasm. A once in a lifetime experience.
