The Lang Sixth Form Centre

8 January 2018

Our shiny new building is in full use on the first day of term.  It brings 10 new teaching rooms, extra Science and Technology facilities, a Sixth Form Common room, study area and IT hub to the mix of old and new at Wally.

The four-storey complex had its official opening in December.  In attendance were the now current headmistress, Miss Stephanie Ferro and two former headmistresses, Mrs Jill Milner and Mrs Jackie Lang, after whom the building is named.

Mrs Lang presented the Head Girl team with a textile piece she had commissioned from the former Head of Art, Mrs Meg Carter.  It depicts cabbages because, as Mrs Lang explained, there used to be a vegetable plot on the site of the new centre, when she was a student at the school.  She used a cabbage analogy to describe the qualities Wally encourages: toughness, with a good heart.
