The 175th Anniversary Concert

6 May 2013

The 175th Anniversary Summer Concert started with a bang with a passionate rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet from the orchestra. After that the audience were treated to a delightfully diverse array of solo and ensemble pieces. In the first half Wally musicians gave us treats from composers as diverse as Fauré, Handel and Weber and even a new piece by LVI composer, Bebe Barry. In the second half, the girls explored the lighter side of music making with popular songs by Karl Jenkins, Jesse Harris, John David and Danny Elfman. As well as the Orchestra, Chamber choir, Wally Singers and the Advanced ensemble, we were delighted to welcome Cantores from the Junior school, a number of Wally old girls and a trio of talented members of staff to help us celebrate the 175th anniversary. We also said fond farewell to our talented UVI musicians, hearing a stunning rendition of Weber’s Concertino by Eleanor Eden. The orchestra brought the evening to a close with a toe-tapping rendition of Soul Bossa Nova, in which quite a few of the Junior School girls could be seen bopping along!
