Swimming to Nationals

Walthamstow Hall Junior School

South East Divisional Primary Schools Team Championships 23rd April 2016

(Qualifying Round for Nationals)

Further to their success at the Kent Primary Schools’ Relays back in March, Elspeth Watson, Rachel Hall, Maisy Sylow and Charlotte Carr were back in the pool at the Spectrum in Guildford for the South East Divisional Championships. The girls had qualified in the freestyle and medley relay category for medium sized schools comprising of both boys and girls teams.

The first event for the team was the medley relay where the girls produced another personal best time to put themselves through to the final. Now they would need to finish in the top 3 in order to qualify for the Nationals. In an exciting final against strong opposition the girls exceeded expectation and secured 3rd place and qualified for the 22nd Primary Schools’ National Team Championships. This was no small feat as the girls had to swim faster than they had swum in previous competitions in order to guarantee their place and they did just that. In the freestyle team event the girls also produced a commendable performance just missing out on a final’s place on the day by a few tenths of a second, it was so close.

Congratulations to all the girls who took part it was truly an outstanding performance and a very exciting day with so much achieved.

Also a special thank you to Alison Carr who assisted pool side and all the parents and siblings who came along to watch and support the girls during the competition.

The Nationals will be held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield on the 18th June.

Congratulations Team Wally we are so very proud of you.
