Sports Round Up

11 July 2013

Summer term ended with yet more sporting successes to celebrate.

IAPS Athletics Finals
At the IAPS National Athletics Finals in Birmingham on 2nd July Year 7 Evie Butler finished 3rd in her 800m heat, Year 8 Genevieve Allan finished in a very creditable 6th place in the U14 1500m and Year 7 Kathleen Faes won her event, the girls U13 1500m, in a new record time and is now the IAPS National champion in this event.

Aegon County Tennis Finals
On 3rd July our U13 and U15 Tennis teams competed in the Aegon Schools Tennis Regional Finals in Canterbury. In this competition the top teams from each of the 6 different leagues in Kent battle it out to become Kent champions. Both our U13 and U15 teams did extremely well to reach these finals.
The U13s played matches against Sir Roger Manwoods School, Dane Court, Highworth Grammar and TOGGs which were all extremely close but they were unable to score enough points to win a medal in their competition.
The U15s played against Sir Roger Manwoods School, Dane Court and Highworth Grammar and scored enough points to top their table and this took them into the final against Highworth Grammar. They won both matches 9-4 and 7-5 to take the gold medals and win the tournament.

Kent Netball
Congratulations to Anna Brown and Lucy Furse who heard at the end of term that they have both been selected for the County U14 Netball Academy Squad next term.

Sevenoaks Aquathlon
On 7th July Year 7 Natasha Cooke was the overall winner of the Sevenoaks Aquathlon in a time which beat the existing event record by an incredible 26 seconds.

The Aquathlon is a major event with athletes coming from far afield to compete. In Natasha's age group (11/12 year olds) there were 81 girls and boys competing. They had to complete a 200m swim immediately followed by a 1500m run.

Natasha not only won the girls race, she beat all the boys too to come 1st overall with a record breaking race time of 9 minutes and 8 seconds.

Swimming National Championships
Congratulations to Ninah Strydom and Isabella woods who have both qualified to swim at the National Championships in Sheffield in August.

Very well done to all of our sportswomen who have represented the school so brilliantly in so many sports in anniversary year.
