Sicilian adventure

1 November 2017

Year 9-11 Geography students had a wonderful field trip to Sicily over half term, enjoying a range of climatic, geological and cultural experiences.

They walked the snowy slopes of volcanic Mount Etna and examined volcanic rock formations by the coast.

After a choppy ferry ride, the students smelt the sulphur and saw the mineral-rich mud of sunny Lipari and Vulcano Islands.

They saw Greek and Roman ruins in Syracuse, and acted some scenes from Shakespeare in the huge Greek theatre there.

All this and more, accompanied by plentiful pasta, pizza and icecream.  Huge thanks to the Head of Geography, Miss Burtenshaw, for masterminding this fantastic trip.
