School ski trip to Austria

26 February 2018

There were six days of glorious skiing for the 40 students and staff who went to Bad Kleinkirchheim in Austria for the School skiing trip.

Deputy Head Carl Hughes led the trip and said of all the ten school ski trips he has been on previously (one with Wally, the rest with another school), it was by far the best, due to the quality of the environment, instructors, and skiing.

The group arrived on Saturday, had a day on the slopes on the Sunday and then awoke on Monday morning to ten inches of fresh snow.

From then on it was perfect skiing under blue skies on all but one day.

There was a special coach trip down to the village midweek, for a treat at the thermal spa baths.  Students were able to relax in a warm outdoor pool and watch the sun set over the snow-covered mountains.

The Hotel Feriendorf Kirchleitn lived up to Mr Hughes' expectations: comfortable accomodation and superb food.  Having sole occupancy of the premises made the stay more relaxing for the Wally contingent.

The only low point of the trip was when one poor student broke her ankle.  Sports teacher Mrs Cameron kept the girl company in the hotel for the final three days of the holiday.

All the girls received certificates for their skiing and by the end of the week, even the complete beginners had managed to ski down the entire mountain.
