Refugee talk

"no one leaves home unless

home is the mouth of a shark".

Our visiting speaker David Skinner used this poem by Warsan Shire to illustrate his talk on the plight of Rohingyan refugees, to our Sixth Form on Thursday.

Mr Skinner heads to Bangladesh for Save The Children in January to lead the charity's response to the crisis.

He spoke about Save The Children's work with refugees and gave some background to the Rohingya people, explaining why the United Nations has called them "the world's most persecuted minority".

It was a fascinating, sobering talk from someone who is at the heart of tackling the crisis.  What a start to our Sixth Form lecture series.
