Old Girls back to school

9 June 2012

It was wonderful to warmly welcome over a hundred old girls back to school on Saturday 9th June for the annual Walthamstow Hall Old Girls Association Summer Reunion. It was particularly pleasing that so many girls took up the special invitation extended to those who had left in a year ending in a '2', with leavers from 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992 and 2002 all well represented.

At the AGM, WOGA thanked outgoing President Professor Beverley Hunt who, in her four year term of office, has been at the forefront of modernising the Old Girls Association with the introduction of London reunions, career mentoring and the development of a new website (soon to launch). Beverley will remain a member of the committee with specific responsibility of raising funds for a new WOGA Sixth Form Science Bursary. Beverley in turn introduced her successor, new President Caroline Ayers (nee Cheshire) who has already hit the ground running, turning her legal expertise to the task of updating the WOGA Rules to more accurately reflect the way that the organisation operates today.

The AGM was followed by tea, Pimms and tours of the school, during which many old girls visited the school archives. The school archivist, Mrs White, had arranged displays of photographs and materials related to the '2’ years and current students were on hand to interview and take 'living histories' from their forebears which will be used as a resource within History lessons.
