New Dining Hall Opened

7 May 2014

The High Sheriff of Kent, Hugo Fenwick, swapped his ceremonial sword for a pair of scissors to cut the ribbon on the new Dining Hall at Walthamstow Hall Junior School on Friday 2nd May. The opening ceremony was one of the first for Mr Fenwick, who took up office as High Sheriff in April of this year.

Pupils were fascinated by Mr Fenwick’s official Court Dress of a black velvet coat and breeches complete with shoes with silver buckles and badge of office strung on a ribbon and very much enjoyed his opening speech.

The opening ceremony also featured musical performances by the Walthamstow Hall Junior School choir, Cantores, whose repertoire included John Rutter’s A Gaelic Blessing and a rousing rendition Food Glorious Food. The Reverend Gill Le Boutillier-Scott from the Drive Methodist Church offered thanks and a blessing for the new facilities.

As well as the new Dining Hall and kitchens the new Junior School building also includes a new pre-prep room for girls in the Nursery and Reception classes at the Junior School.

Speaking at the ceremony, Head of the Junior School, Mrs Diane Wood, said, "The new Dining Hall marks an exciting change for the girls at Walthamstow Hall and is a welcome asset for our Junior School. The opening of this light and spacious facility is perfectly timed to accomodate our growing numbers of girls and also includes a new Pre-Prep classroom which increases the capacity of our Early Years unit for Nursery and Reception pupils. Our girls continue to benefit and flourish as our school provides for future opportunities."
