Kathleen breaks British road mile record

11 June 2015

Year 9 Kathleen Faes has won the U15 British championship for the road mile at Westminster, setting a new all-time road mile British record for U15 girls at 4:59, a feat made all the more incredible by Kathleen being a year young in the U15 age group.

The Westminster mile takes place on 'the most iconic mile in the world'. Organised by the London Marathon team the race uses the same starting line in the Mall as the Olympians and Paralympians used for the marathon and road cycling events at the 2012 London Olympics. The route then takes runners past Admiralty Arch, Horseguards Parade, behind Downing Street and into Birdcage Walk before the home straight past Wellington Barracks for a memorable finish in front of Buckingham Palace.

Kathleen was presented with her trophy by Steve Cram.
