My Fair Lady

12 September 2018

In just eight working weeks The Ship will be hosting the Upper School production of My Fair Lady.

Head of Drama, Victoria Bower-Morris started the proceedings with a whole-company lecture about George Bernard Shaw, the author of the play it's based on, followed by a sing-a-long.

Mrs Bower-Morris stressed the importance of understanding the political and historical aspects of the play, saying "If you understand what George Bernard Shaw was trying to say, then you can communicate it".

A total of 60 students will be involved, across cast and back stage crew.

Mrs Bower-Morris explained that the musical is based on Shaw's play Pygmalion which is itself drawn from an ancient Greek tale told by Ovid.

She said while Shaw had a humble start, he rose to become one of the most influential people of his day, yet continued to feel like an outsider.

So much thought and preparation goes into these productions, we can't wait until curtain up in November.
