The Orchestra, Wind Band, Chamber Choir, Flute Choir, Recorder Trio, String Group and Wally Singers, together with individual performers, gave a roof raising Christmas Concert on Friday evening, providing the perfect ending to the school's 'Festive Friday' celebrations. The programme included pieces by Bizet, Britten, Puccini, Saint-Saëns and John Rutter interspersed with selections from Les Misẻrables, Wicked and traditional Christmas music and carols. The orchestra closed the concert with rousing pieces from Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt

Such a wonderful musical occasion marks the end of what has been a very successful term for the Music Department during which the achievements of many school musicians have been celebrated. Matilda Lloyd has gained a place in the National Youth Orchestra, Verity Lloyd has won a place to study at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Elizabeth Brightwell-Gibbons has gained a place on the National Youth Wind Orchestra. Elizabeth has also performed timpani with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at a 'Come and Play' day that was broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Music Captain Jennifer Wheeler, meanwhile has got through to the second round of the BBC's Young Musician of the Year competition and has reached the final of the Bromley Young Musician of the Year.

As the end of term approaches we very much look forward to hearing our students perform again at the final musical event in the school calendar, the annual Carol Service at Tonbridge School Chapel on Wednesday 14th December.
