Leavers' legacy

The Upper Sixth Leavers presented their leaving gift to future generations of the school today. They have bought the school a new Mulberry tree which they have bedecked with their words of 'Wally wisdom' to pass on to the next generation of Wally Hall girls.

The Mulberry tree has particular significance to the school as does the date of 26th June. Mulberry trees were plentiful around the original school building in Walthamstow back in the early nineteenth century. A particularly large Mulberry grew in the school's garden and had a swing for the girls suspended from its branches. A cutting from this very tree is grows on the school's west lawn in Sevenoaks.

June 26th is the date upon which the foundation stone for the Senior School building in Holly Bush Lane was laid.

Pearls of Upper Sixth wisdom covering everything from study techniques and friendships through to puddings and Mrs Milner's favourite brand of chocolate are now fluttering from the new Mulberry's branches which will form the centre piece of a new strip of wild flower meadow beside the Sixth Form Centre.
