Walthamstow Hall students are always intrepid and seeking out new challenges and experiences. Half-term provided  just such an opportunity, with 33 mainly Year 10 and 11 girls going to Iceland for a 5 day visit. Not content with doing the usual tourist sites of the Blue Lagoon, rift valleys, black beaches and waterfalls, we also donned hard hats, crampons and ice axes to walk on the Solheimajὄkull glacier, and battled against the elements to attempt a climb on Iceland’s most recent volcano Eldfell on the island of Heimaey. We had the added bonus of seeing the Northern Lights too. One of our highlights was visiting the farm affected by the volcano Eyjafjallajὄkull in 2010 where we met the family we had learned about in school. The trip was open to Senior girls with an interest in this country and everyone came away with a great sense of awe and respect for this amazing environment.
