Down win the first House Music Cup

21 February 2018

It was a riot of musical talent and enthusiasm in the Main Hall just before Half Term.  Every girl in the School performed on stage - and Down House won the new House Performing Arts Cup.

Each House chooses a song that all House members perform together, as well as a song for a smaller ensemble.  This year one song (or medley of songs) had to come from a particular decade, and the other had to be from a female icon.

The School welcomed profesional singer Lydia Jenkins to come and judge this most important of House events.

Ms Jenkins praised the talents and sheer energy displayed in each of the performances.

In addition to the prizes of Best Presented House, Best House Song and Best House Ensemble (won by Penshurst, Montreal and Down respectively) a new House Performing Arts Cup was up for grabs.

The Cup is a gift from former Headmistress Mrs Jill Milner, who made a surprise guest appearance to present it for the first time.

Down House were the first recipients; their rendition of Beyonce's I was Here and their Noughties MegaMashup of songs including Jason Mraz's I'm Yours and Justin Timberlake's Senorita, won especial acclaim from Ms Jenkins.

Both songs were accompanied by a different seven-piece band and had been arranged by students themselves.
