Going for Gold

Congratulations to Sixth Formers Alexandra Ellicott, Isabelle French, Fiona Grieve, Elena Gutierrez-Garcia, Anna Pitts-Tucker, Fran Taylor-Lowen, Seraiah Western and Melanie Wheeler who have received their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards this week. An extra special well done to Sophie Puttock who collected both her Silver and Gold Award, a fantastic achievement.

The girls aren't resting on their laurels with work for their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards already well underway.

Over the summer nine students; Daniela Cullum, Isabelle French, Elena Gutierrez-Garcia, Anna Pitts-Tucker, Sophie Puttock, Chanelle Smith, Beth and Fran Taylor-Lowen and Melanie Wheeler underwent their Gold training and completed their Gold expeditions in Snowdonia.

The girls experienced some trials and tribulations, such as illness, which made them appreciate the experience even more as Melanie explained, "The challenges we faced throughout made us realise why the Duke of Edinburgh awards, especially Silver and Gold, are so well respected. We were taken completely out of our comfort zones but I think all of us are really glad that we did it and we have learnt and achieved a lot along the way." Melanie has since completed all five sections for her Gold Award and we wish the rest of the group every success as they near the finish line too.
