Friday in France

20 May 2016

Sixty Year 8 girls and seven members of staff headed to France for the day on Friday 13th May (unlucky for some, but certainly not for us!). We travelled by ferry to Calais and then to Boulogne. Our first stop was the confiserie called ‘Becasuc’, a sweets and chocolate factory where we listened to a talk, watched a demonstration, sampled the sweets and purchased plenty for ourselves and our families. From here we headed for the beach where we enjoyed our lunch and some fun in the sunshine. We then visited Nausicaá, the national sea life centre, where we saw a vast number of different creatures in an amazing number of different aquariums, including sharks, penguins, sea lions, jelly fish and, of course, plenty of fish. Our favourites were the ones that look just like Nemo! From Nausicaá we walked up through the city of Boulogne, heading for the old town within the old walls, where we saw the belfry and domed cathedral and were able to stroll around the cobbled streets looking at the shops and stopping in cafés and restaurants. The girls impressed the teachers with their use of French, particularly when ordering their food. Finally, we headed home to Sevenoaks. It was a long but very successful day and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
