Environmental Artworks

1 June 2015

Year 7 artists have been commended for their entries into the 'It's Our World' online art gallery. 'It's Our World' has been created by The Campaign for Drawing in partnership with 20 environmental, arts and educational bodies to celebrate UN World Environment Day on 5th June.

The project aims, "to create the UK's largest online collection of artwork celebrating the environment as seen through the eyes of its future custodians. The purpose is to empower children and young people to speak out for positive environmental action, by creating artwork to bring their local landscape, townscape, coastline or neighbourhood to life."

For their artwork theme Walthamstow Hall's Year 7 explored the subject of litter in the environment, taking photographs and using them as the basis for polyboard prints, collagraphs, monoprints and collages.

When the Walthamstow Hall work was submitted the art department received an email from the 'It's Our World' team commending the exceptional standard of the pieces which they described as 'stunning', 'amazing' and the work of 'some very talented young artists and inspirational teaching'.

The 'It's Our World' gallery can be seen at www.itisourworld.org.uk and the entire collection will be handed over to the British Library in December to coincide with the UN World Leaders Climate Change Summit in Paris.
