Democracy Award

1 February 2016

Walthamstow Hall is delighted to have received the British Youth Council's Discovering Democracy Award, a new government initiative designed to encourage students to have their say.

The Discovering Democracy Award is funded by the Cabinet Office and celebrates and shares the success of schools that go further in equipping their students with the skills and knowledge to play a full and active part in society, through high quality teaching, student voice and social action projects. The chosen schools have been judged to be good examples of best practice in creating a positive culture of citizenship and democracy. The award is judged by a panel of young people and sector experts.

Walthamstow Hall is one of 41 schools nationally to receive the award and the only school in Kent to do so. The award follows the election of Year 11 Charlotte Robertson to the Sevenoaks Youth Council in December and Year 12 students speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg at the end of last year.
