Debating Team Win Sevenoaks Tournament

13 May 2011

Many congratulations to Walthamstow Hall's Lower Fourth (Year 8) Debating Society who won the Sevenoaks Rotary Society's Debating Tournament at Sevenoaks School last night with great style.

The two teams both won their debates. The first debated 'PE should not be compulsory in schools' against Knole Academy and the second team debated 'Pupils' pages on Facebook should be private and schools should not interfere', against Sevenoaks School.

They also won overall best school, best team (for Isabelle French, Katrine Cereda, and Georgina Labrum) and individual trophies went to Charlotte Pye & Katrine Cereda for Best Speaker 1 & 2 respectively. Each of the students also received a medal for their participation.

The judges (one a former MEP) were exceptionally impressed with the confidence of the girls and the hard work they had clearly put in to improve their speaking skills over the course of the year.
