Christmas Concert

10 December 2017

Verdi's witches in pointy hats, Bizet's Year 7 urchins, and a glorious combined choir singing O Holy Night all made Friday evening a night to remember.

It was an operatic theme for headmistress Jill Millner's final Christmas Concert and the Main Hall was completely packed.

Among the highlights were the Senior Chamber Choir, conducted by Emily Leather, all wearing colourful pointy hats to sing the Witches' Chorus from Verdi's Macbeth

There was a standing ovation for the two Year 13s who performed an abridged 1st movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No 2 in C minor.  Georgia played the lead, accompanied by Emily on the School's new piano, donated by Sir Geraint Evans' family.

The Year 7 Choir stamped across the stage to perform the Chorus of Urchins from Bizet's Carmen.

The final piece was a jaw-droppingly magnificent rendition of O Holy Night from an enormous combined choir.  The piece was arranged by Wally's own Jim Clements.

At the end Mrs Milner thanked the staff and students for the wonderful evening, not least for the musical choices in the programme which she said were her favourites, 'every one'.

Mrs Milner then paid individual tributes to the school's talented Music staff, starting with Mrs Juliet Dammers who she said did 'so much for music at Walthamstow Hall'.  She then thanked Miss Emily Leathers for her 'musical genius' and finally Mr Nick Castell - 'What a great appointment!'.
