On Friday 12th May, Year 8 girls and accompanying members of staff travelled to Boulogne, France for an exciting day packed with different activities. After a smooth ferry crossing and a short journey to Boulogne we let off some steam by running around on the sandy beach and the sun came out for us. Our first visit was to the Becasuc sweet factory where we watched a fascinating demonstration of boiled and jelly sweets being made by the eccentric owner, listening to explanations in both French and English. After a second stop at the beach for lunch we headed to Nausicaá, France’s national sea experience centre, where we saw thousands of fish and other sea creatures including penguins, sharks, turtles and sea lions. This visit was followed by a walk up through central Boulogne to the cobbled streets of the old town. Here the students practised their French once again in order to purchase souvenirs and buy food at stalls and in restaurants and cafés. It was then time to head home via the Eurotunnel.  The trip was very interesting and lots of fun and it was thoroughly enjoyed by students and teachers alike.
