Black History

5 October 2018

In Black History Month, Year 9 are studying what West Africa was like before the slave trade.

Their history lessons chime with our School charity this year, the A21 Campaign which works to abolish modern day slavery.

In class, students are evaluating source material and looking at the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade database in the US to grasp the scale of the trade in the 16th-19th centuries.

They have worked their knowledge into something creative; one group of students wrote a song and performed it to the class.

Another student, Elizabeth - whose advocacy of the A21 Campaign convinced the School to adopt it as its charity - has written a powerful poem, which you can read on our Twitter page.
