Angharad selected for Talented Athlete Scheme

15/01/2013

Many congratulations to Lower Sixth student Angharad Ward who has been selected for the 2012/2013 Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS).

TASS 'helps talented athletes to shine in education and sport by giving them the support they need to excel in both aspects of their career'. The support which the young athletes receive includes; sports coaching, physiotherapy, strength and conditioning training and access to the TASS medical programme. The programme is based on a partnership between athletes, educational institutions and sports' governing bodies and is backed by the government through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

TASS alumni include Olympic gold medallists Rebecca Adlington and Amy Williams. For London 2012 record numbers of TASS athletes and alumni were selected, with over 200 competing for Team GB and Paralympics GB. Out of these 44 athletes came away with medals, 10 of whom won multiple medals.

Angharad was a member of Team GB's Curling team at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics last year and we very much look forward to reporting on her future sporting successes.
