Alice shortlisted for Saatchi Prize


Artwork by Walthamstow Hall Sixth Former Alice Evans has been selected as one of the final 20 pieces for the 2015 Saatchi Gallery/Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools. The shortlist of 20 were chosen from over 20,000 entries submitted from around the world.

Alice's painting, entitled Boy, is on board painted over with Gesso. Alice used Acrylic and graphite to produce the image and then used the 'Sgraffito' technique with a scalpel blade. 

The 2015 judging panel for the prize consisted of Lauren Child, MBE, writer, illustrator and creator of Charlie and Lola; Catherine Goodman, Artistic Director of The Royal Drawing Schools, Alistair Hicks, Art Advisor to Deutsche Bank; Nigel Hurst, CEO of the Saatchi Gallery and Richard Wilson, an Artist whose work includes 20:50 which is on permanent display at the Saatchi Gallery.

An exhibition of the 20 shortlisted works will take place between 28th April - 4th May at the Saatchi Gallery, London. The winner and runner up prizes will be announced at 7pm on 28th April.

The atmosphere in the Art Department is electric with the news, Head of Art, Mrs Catherine Hughes, said "This is one of the best days of my teaching career. I have always been confident that one of our students could make the shortlist for this competition and it is wonderful to see it happen."
