World Cup for Alex

After playing as a member of the England squad on a successful tour of the USA this Easter, and having represented England at the U19 Home Internationals in March, Lower Sixth Alex Drewe has won a place in the team of 20 players selected to represent England at the U19 Women's Lacrosse World Championship in July.

Having chosen the final 20, England Head Coach, Nicky Budd, commented;

"Following a very successful tour to the U.S.A, we are now able to announce the final squad of 20 that will train leading up to the World Cup in July. This decision has been an extremely hard one because all of the girls have given absolute commitment and dedication to their training over the last three years and been a very cohesive group. They are all a credit to their country. The 20 will now continue to fine tune their individual skills and techniques and team tactical plays in the final squads and competitions prior to the World Cup to give themselves the best opportunity to make the final 18 that will actually represent England in the World Cup in July. With the talent, strength, team work and focus that has been demonstrated so far by the U19 England girls we are confident that we are on track to achieve our standards of performance and goals in Edinburgh in July."

From an original group of 40 girls, amongst whom Alex was one of the youngest, Alex has come through many selections and has worked hard to earn her place in the final World Cup 20.

Lacrosse is a truly international sport, played by 29 countries, many of whom will be competing at the World Championships in Edinburgh. It is one of the fastest growing sports and more and more countries are joining the men’s and women’s international competitions. England are hoping to improve on their Bronze Medal placing in 2007 and we eagerly await news of Alex’s progress with the team.
