A* most popular GCSE/IGCSE grade

23 August 2013

National fears concerning the difficulties of securing strong GCSE and IGCSE grades were happily not in evidence at Walthamstow Hall this morning where an impressive 45% of grades were at the top A*, 81% A* or A and 94% A* - B.

Over half of the year group, achieved an incredible 10 or more A* and A grades and twelve students gained 8 or more A*s.

In their national GCSE/IGCSE table of results published on 23rd August The Times has ranked Walthamstow Hall's results as best in the local area of Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone

Headmistress, Mrs Jill Milner said,

“I am really proud of our students who yet again have bucked national trends in an emphatic fashion. Only yesterday I was reading a BBC online news article* predicting ‘significant grade turbulence’ especially in the core English, Maths and Science exam subjects. I am delighted to say that it has been business as usual at Walthamstow Hall with a 100% A- C pass rate in these 5 core subjects and nearly half of all results being awarded the very top A* grade. Our Year 11 students throw themselves into all aspects of school life with great enthusiasm and their approach to their studies has been no different. Many congratulations to them and the teachers who inspire them.”

STOP PRESS: In the national GCSE/IGCSE results table for state and independent schools published today, The Times has ranked Walthamstow Hall as the highest performing school in the local area (including Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone) and 51st nationally. The Times ranks schools based on the proportion of A* and A* - A grades achieved at GCSE and IGCSE.
